FAQ
FAQ as you know stand for Frequently Asked Questions which also contains just some interesting facts about my experiences and history.
What's the story behind the name 'Dragor'?
The symbol was actually drawn before the name was thought up. "Dragor" is derived from the word dragon hence the dragon symbol. When I was thinking of a name I was thinking of the Chinese Red Dragon because it reflects my culture of being chinese, and that dragons in general are mythical, mysterious beasts. The closest unique name I could think of was "Dragor", since dragon would be too common. It also spells very close to my orginal idea of "Dragon".
Who made the Dragon symbol?
I did, back in 2004. The first symbol was hand drawn then scanned, and traced using freehand. In fact I also made this site as well, along with all of the artwork including my signature on forums, the background on my myspace...
How did you start?
The first ever music production program I used dates back to about 2003 which was Sony's Acid 3.0, where we were forced to use it for a high school project. I was 13 at the time. It was just a loop based program, and I really hated it. I didn't get a high mark for my composition in Acid 3. A year later, I discovered Fruityloops 3 on the school computers in the music computer room. They were installed in, as an attempt for people to learn non loop based programs, and more 'make your own' type loops. No body used it, not even the teacher who installed it who said he wanted to learn it, but just didn't have the time to. This is where I discovered Toby's Raindrops, which blew me away on the type of capabilities this DAW could do. That song inspired me so much, that I began composing in that program at school every time we had free time in the music room. I then went further when I bought FL Studio Version 4 (which was the lastest version at the time), and have been at it ever since.
Can you play any instruments?
I play piano only. I have been playing since 8. I took lessons, but I'm self taught now up to this day. It really helps when I'm composing in a big way whether it be an orchestral score, to a trance track. I don't think I would have gotten to where I am today without the lessons I took.
Are you self taught?
Depends which skills. I was taught basic music theory and piano lessons when I was a child, and in 2008 I have started taking audio engineering classes which have improved my production skills. The other skills such as trance production and other creative aspects were learnt from forums, mags, various sites, self discovery, etc.
Date format? Spelling?
Date format and spelling follow the Australian/UK way. dd/mm/yyyy. Example 12/5/2010 would be the 12th of May 2010. As an example, spelling of realize would be realise in Australia.
Do you have facebook?
No! (at least not yet). And if you see any accounts under my name such as this one, they were made by fans (I presume), and are not official.
Why not?
I'm afraid I might get addicted and spend enormous amounts of time on it. Time which could be spent on making another tune...
Do you have myspace?
Yes! Basically any links from this site (such as Acidplanet, Soundcloud, Myspace, etc) are official. Anything that has my name on it, but isn't linked on this site, is not official.
What is with the copyright notice?
This is a warning to people that all projects, music and information on this site is protected by copyright law, and that I am the copyright owner and holder of all my material. DO NOT BREACH THIS. I am sick and tired of other people ripping off my work. The fact that bastards like Tom Davies, Black Diamond, and N3cROm4NCeR are willing to ignore this warning and rip my tracks off regardless, sickens me. Do not do this or you will face legal action.
Does this mean I have to ask permission to use or modify your material?
Yes. However, if you are using any of my works for non commercial purposes, as long as you credit me, you do not need to ask. If you are modifiying any of my material such as a remix, please let me know as I will usually say yes. If you are using it for commercial purposes then you obviously need to contact me for my permission.
Don't you need to register or something to have that on?
No. Registering will only prove that you own the copyright, but this really isn't necessary. Under the Australian copyright law (and international as well) as soon as you create a song (or any kind of creative work basically) down to a medium (like, say a hard drive, or to uploading to a website), then you automatically own the copyright to your work, and hence the copyright notice.
